“Then Jesus approached and said to them, ‘All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.’” (Matthew 28:19-20)
Holy Name of Mary is a Catholic Community of Faith whose tri-fold goal of spiritual growth is: closer union with our Lord Jesus Christ, celebration of the Sacraments of Faith, and service of our sisters and brothers. Our primary mission is preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Mt. 28:19-20) in the Morgan Park community and beyond.
The purpose of Holy Name of Mary’s Parish Pastoral Council is to prayerfully engage the people of God and the pastor in common reflection about the parish’s mission and the ministry, to plan, and to evaluate in light of the Gospel and Church teaching. The Pastoral Council is responsible for pastoral planning, including periodic reevaluation of the parish mission statement, ongoing needs assessment, defining parish goals, setting broad strategies for implementing those goals, and evaluating the parish’s success in carrying out the Church’s mission.
Holy Name of Mary’s Parish Pastoral Council is composed of members of the parish pastoral staff and members of the parish. It is presided over by the pastor with delegated authority given to the Chair of the Pastoral Council. Members of the Parish Pastoral Council, composed of members of the various ministry groups, work together in making decisions after prayerful discernment, study, and discussion.
The Pastoral Council’s main areas of concern are fourfold: (1) parish spiritual life; (2) Catholic education; (3) human concerns; and (4) parish life. Addressing these areas of concern--under the guidance of the Holy Spirit--assist members and those encountered to be more successful in making heaven their home!
